Casual Friday on a Dime: Tunics

We’re officially obsessed with tunics around here. Especially being pregnant, they’ve been a Godsend the past couple of months because they were oversized and I could pair them with leggings. I’m even more so about comfort now!

I’m sure you’re thinking, “jeez, how many tunics are you guys going to show us?” I know, I said I was obsessed. :) However, this one is a bit different then the others due to the cutout back. It adds a touch of fun I think! Oh, and did I mention the price? For under $50 you can’t beat that!

Tunic Blouse with Cut Out Back

WANT.

This ASOS Tunic Blouse with Cut Out Back is available in both nude (shown) and black. Both colors are available in sizes 0-12! I think personally I’m partial to the nude though! I just think you can pair it with so much!

  • Made from a breathable woven fabric
  • Point collar
  • Concealed button placket through front
  • Draped back, cut-out detail
  • Oversized fit

Tunics make a great addition to any casual Friday wardrobe as they can be dressed up or down.

What do you think? Would you wear this tunic on casual Friday?

Be sure to check out our post on 6 ways to style tunics, which includes more great styles that would be perfect for Casual Friday.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: 13 Pink Dresses

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

In case you somehow missed the news, 10 years ago today the oh-so-quotable Mean Girls was released. I re-watched it last week, somehow thinking that I had missed the 10 year mark, but here we are today celebrating 10 years of phrases like “fetch,” “grool,” and “Ex-boyfriends are off-limits to friends. That’s just, like, the rules of feminism.”

And then, of course, there’s “On Wednesdays we wear pink,” which is oh-so-fitting because today is Wednesday! (I’ve seen at least a few people wearing pink on Instagram, which deserves the highest of fives.)

In honor of Mean Girls, Wednesday, and the color pink, we found 13 pink dresses that can be worn every Wednesday in summer (that’s 13 Wednesdays by our count).

Pink Dresses

Strawberry Festival Queen Dress – $99.99 at ModCloth //  Bella Fit and Flare Dress – $188 at Lilly Pulitzer // Loose Belted Shirt Dress – $69 at Shoptiques // Lovers + Friends Sweet Sensation Dress – $143 at Shopbop // (Plus Size) Classic Seamed Sheath Dress – $88 at Eloquii

I wonder: If one were to actually wear pink to the office every single Wednesday, would anyone notice?

Trends to Try: Culottes

My trusty computer went to the shop yesterday for an annual cleaning (thanks Apple Care!), which meant that I spent last night doing old fashioned things like browsing magazines, reading (on my Kindle, natch), and looking at photos on Instagam. I then grew tired of these pursuits at 9:30 and went to bed for the night and let me tell you – 9 hours of sleep on a weeknight is amazing! Normally I only get 5-6 hours of sleep per night, so today I feel like a whole new person!

Anyhoo, one of the things that stood out to me when I was browsing People Style Watch is that they declared “long” shorts to be in style again.

“Culottes?” I thought to myself. “Culottes are in again? Awesome. I’ve only been waiting for this day since I was 12.”

I’m pretty sure my entire summer wardrobe as a child consisted of culottes, so I’m pretty excited about this development. I didn’t want to talk People’s word for it, but a quick scan of websites shows that culottes are everywhere!

If you’re sitting there wondering, “what are culottes?” (likely because your tween wardrobe wasn’t as adorkable as mine), culottes are long loose-fitting shorts (or short pants) that resemble a skirt. Unlike the very similar skort, culottes do not usually have a wrap-around flap in front. Culottes can be super flattering, super comfy, and office appropriate as it’s likely that only your most stylish friends will realize you’re wearing long shorts to the office! Why culottes ever went out of style is beyond me.

Labour of Love Culottes

How chic are these Labor of Love Culottes? They look JUST like a skirt, which makes them office appropriate but you’ll be way more comfortable because they’re actually shorts. (Not to be unpleasant but at the very least, one doesn’t need to worry about summer thigh chafing and combative undergarments while wearing culottes!) These leopard print culottes are on sale for $133.92 at FarFetch.com.

Free People Culottes

These Free People Culottes are perhaps a little too short and casual-looking to be considered office appropriate, but they sure are super cute! They look perfect for summer! These culottes are $78 at Bloomingdale’s.

Floral Woven Culottes

If culottes are something you want to try but you don’t want to invest a bunch of money, Forever21 has a few pairs that are – somewhat surprisingly – office appropriate, like these Floral Woven Culottes that cost just $22.80.

For more affordable culottes, I highly recommend checking out ASOS. Not many of their many styles of culottes are office appropriate, but they are cute and affordable, and they have traditional sizes, maternity, and plus size culottes available!

Here are some of my favorites:

Do Tell: Will you be rocking culottes this summer or is this a trend you’re going to pass on?

Warm Weather Wear: Fancy Shorts

Hopefully it’s warming up in your neck of the woods (it was so cold here yesterday!). Since it’s starting to get warmer I need to re-vamp my warm weather wardrobe. My favorite warm weather wear is shorts, so I found some fun ones that won’t break the bank, but still make a statement!

These sequin shorts are to die for!

sequin shorts

What a great way to add a bit of flare to your wardrobe while still being comfortable and cool!

Available in green and copper- I can’t decide which one I like better!

If the sequins scare you, then I can’t recommend linen enough. I have a pair of linen shorts and they are the most comfortable things in the world.

Scallop Linen shorts

Dress them up or dress them down- they’d look great either way! And for $37.63 you aren’t breaking the bank. LOVE.

Lastly, these lace shorts are just $6.90! I’m buying them in black and beige!

Are shorts on your must have list for the warm weather?

Beach Bums: Let’s Dream About the Lazy Days of Summer

I took my dogs for a walk at lunchtime and was blown away by the temperature. Not only is it warm here (a crazy 61 degrees!), but it’s sunny and it is pretty much a perfect day. Of course, I’m rarely content to enjoy the here and now so I pulled off my coat and immediately started thinking about warmer days to come, particularly warmer days spent beach side.

Truthfully, I rarely go to the beach in the summer, but I feel like making up for this past winter by spending the entire summer at the beach. (Does anyone know if the beach has wi-fi? Kidding. Kind of.)

While I won’t actually be hitting the beach here in Chicago for awhile, my husband and I are headed off on a beachy vacation next month, and below you’ll find many of the items I will actually be packing for fun in the sun.

Beach Bums: What to pack for fun in the sun

Wayfarer Sunglasses – $5.80 at Forever21

Ever since I saw these pink Wildfox sunglasses I have been kind of obsessed with getting a pair to wear this summer. $5.80 trumps $169 any day and these make a great look for less.

Juicy Couture Beach Pouch – $38 at Shopbop

I have to admit that I purchased this pouch last night at the Shopbop Friends and Family Sale. It brought a huge smile to my face and I couldn’t resist!

Front Row Tote Bag – $24 at Roxy

Any bag will do, but this straw tote with little tassels is super cute.

My Wish List Tunic – $100 at Wildfox

Obviously I love Wildfox in the summer! They have a bunch of great beachy designs out right now, but this beach cover-up is my favorite! If you can’t read it, it says: “My Wish List: First Class Ticket to Paradise.”

Ipanema Henna Flip Flop – $22 at Amazon

Ipanema flip flops are new to me, but the styles are super duper cute. The look comparable to Havianas a bunch of their styles are a little fancier.

Snack Bar Beauty Bikini – $89.99 at ModCloth

ModCloth has such a great selection of retro swimsuits and this black and white bikini looks like something you might find at Kate Spade.

Sunglasses Beach Towel – $17.99 at JCPenney

JCPenney has a surprisingly good selection of beach towels that are all currently on sale! Also, if you’re heading there this weekend, there’s a $10 off $25 in-store coupon you can print out for even more savings!

Eco-Vessel Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle – $26.99 at Amazon

It’s important to stay hydrated at the beach, and this stainless steel bottle is insulated so it should keep your beverage cool throughout the day!

Essie Too Taboo – $8.50 at Essie

Go to the beach without a fresh pedicure? Not possible.

The One and Only by Emily Giffin (released May 20, 2014) – $11.84 for Kindle

Emily Giffin’s new book is available for pre-order and will hit my Kindle right before we head south on vacation. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I enjoy this book more than I enjoyed her last book, Where We Belong.

Aveeno SPF 50 Sunscreen – $10.99 at ULTA

After a disastrous sunburn situation a few years ago I don’t leave my house without SPF 50. Y’all already know how much I love Aveeno, so knowing that I have Aveeno sunscreen shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ – $38 at Kiehl’s

This product is my secret weapon for protecting my face against sun damage. I discovered this product a few years ago and since I’ve been using it I have managed to avoid any hint of a burn on my face. The SPF 50 helps block UV rays, and it allegedly helps to fight up to 90% of skin aging.

Two-Person Sandless Beach Mat – $59.99 at Hammacher Schlemmer

Seriously, where has this product been all my life? It serves as a barrier between you and the sand, as its dual layers help keep the sand out of your “space” and out of your stuff. A family-sized mat is also available.

If you’re headed to the beach, here are more products that will help protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
