Spring’s Biggest Trends: Metallic Sandals

True story: A few weeks ago I put on my newest pair of metallic gold Sperry Top-Siders for the first time and made a weird personal decision. “I’m going to be the person that always wears metallic shoes in the summer,” I thought to myself, feeling kind of proud that I would have a “thing.” For the past five years or so I’ve been a weird devotee of metallic footwear in the summer, so it’s kind of bizarre that I had this epiphany, but it was what it was.

Shortly thereafter – probably that same day – I was browsing a celebrity gossip website when I noticed that everyone was wearing metallic sandals and metallic shoes. Even though I wasn’t trying to start a trend or be at the forefront of any trends, I patted myself on the back a bit for actually being trendy for once and then began searching for a new pair of metallic sandals.

Which leads us here. Metallic shoes are everywhere this spring and I obviously couldn’t be happier. If you’re looking to add a pair or two or three to your shoe collection (it’s my personal opinion you can never have too much!), here are a few of my favorite pairs:

Spring 2014 Trends: Metallic Sandals

1. Tory Burch Savannah Wedge – $265 at Nordstrom

I don’t think ankle straps are particularly flattering on me, otherwise these sandals would already have a place in my closet! They’re amazingly dainty, and you’ll be able to wear them with everything from shorts to dresses!

2. Birkenstock Papillio Gizeh – $120 at

Raise your hand if you’re a little surprised to see that Birkenstocks are making a come back? Honestly, I never thought I’d see the day. I still have my trusty pair that I wore throughout high school (believe it or not they still look brand new), but if I was going to get a new pair they would definitely be these metallic hot pink ones!

3. Glimmer is Served Sandal in Gold – $44.99 at ModCloth

As I was browsing shoes and writing this post I noticed that not only are metallic sandals huge, but metallic gladiator sandals and metallic Greek sandals (see #7) are everywhere.

4. TKEES Duos Flip Flops – $50 at Shopbop (save 25% at the Shopbop Friends and Family Sale through April 17 with code “INTHEFAMILY14” and bring the price down to $37.50)

I recently picked up a pair of TKEES and I know I’m going to be wearing them non-stop this summer. You may be surprised that I opted for the non-metallic version but these were a close contender!

5. Callie Metallic Sandals – $98 at J.Crew

This pair of metallic sandals is practically perfect.

6. Matisse Marco Metallic Sandal – $98 at Urban Outfitters

I liked this combination of black and silver. It’s a little unexpected!

7. Metallic Wing Sandals – $168.52 at

As I mentioned above, I was surprised by the number of gladiator sandals and Greek sandals I found. I actually found quite a few pairs of winged sandals and I’ve got to admit – I kind of love them!

8. McKim Leather Sandal – $88 at Lilly Pulitzer

I don’t have this specific pair, but I have a sandal that’s very similar to this one that I’ve worn probably the past five summers. Gold flip flops go with everything but I think the gold gives them an added glam factor.

9. Metallic Chevron Flip Flop – $17.50 at Charlotte Russe

This is what you get when you combine all of the trends into one shoe. Not that I’m complaining!

10. BCBGeneration Demee Sandal – $49 at

This metallic sandal can be worn by anyone, but I thought it would make a really pretty option for brides that are looking for a fun party sandal.

11. Voyager Metallic Sandals – $12.80 at Forever 21

This sandal is black and gold, and I like it just as much as the black and silver version above. This one costs approximately 85% less, which puts it a step ahead in my book.

12. Sergio Rossi Flora Crystal-Encrusted Wrap Sandals – MEGA SPLURGE at SAKS

I’ve been seeing these sandals on all of the celebrities so I had to include it here. Isn’t it beautiful?

Check out another of spring’s biggest trends: Slip On Sneakers.

I have some fun news to share: I’m the new Budget Style Expert at!! My first post went up today and it features 10 pairs of metallic shoes under $50. (I told you I had metallic footwear on the brain!) While I haven’t had time to personalize the home page yet, you can find the Budget Style page here.

Zooey Deschanel for Tommy Hilfiger Collection Now Available

Zooey Deschanel for Tommy Hilfiger Red Pleated Dress

Fab news, fellow Zooey lovers! The Zooey Deschanel for Tommy Hilfiger Collection is now available for purchase!

As is to be expected, the majority of the collection features dresses, each of which I can see Zooey or her character Jess on New Girl wearing! The Pleated Dress ($169) above practically screams Zooey.

Geo Print Shift Dress

I think my favorite dress in the collection is this Geo Print Shift Dress ($149.50). I love the navy and red combination, and the geo shapes on the front!

6 Ways to Style a Tunic

6 Ways to Style a Tunic

If you couldn’t tell, I am more than a little bit obsessed with tunics at the moment. I want to wear them every day and every which way.

While it seems that retailers are suddenly calling any old shirt a tunic – seriously, some of the “tunics” I spotted while writing this post were actually crop tops – per the olden days (the Greeks and Romans and all that) tunics are supposed to be loose fitting garments that go down to one’s knees. While only one of the tunics above is anywhere close to knee-length, one of the biggest reasons I’m so smitten with tunics is because they’re usually butt-covering. Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, but tops that cover my butt are pretty much the best thing ever primarily because it means I can pair the top with a pair of leggings! (Comfort is where it’s at these days!)

Tunics are also a fantastic during all four seasons of the year. Longer tunics can be worn alone with a pair of sandals or heels when it’s hot out, or paired with a cardigan, leggings, and tall boots when it’s cold. They can be worn as beach cover-ups or paired with some jeans with brunch with the girls. The options are endless!

In an unsuccessful attempt to help myself get over my tunic addiction I put together a few different tunic outfits that will be perfect throughout the spring and summer.

I stopped by the Neiman Marcus Last Call Outlet at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago this weekend and had a fantastic shopping experience. EVERYTHING was on sale, but when I entered the store I was promptly handed the following coupon:

Seriously, when I say everything is on sale it really is. And the extra 10% was just the icing on the cake!

I was tempted by everything. Designer apparel was an additional 50% off! And the 50% discount was on top of the Last Call price!

All winter boots and booties were an additional 50% off, and I was so tempted by these silver Alice & Olivia booties! Originally $395, the Last Call price was $279. After the additional 50% discount the price fell to $139.50, and after the additional 10% discount they cost just $125.55. It was REALLY hard to resist these, but I ultimately found something else.

LisaI spotted this Kay Unger dress and had to have it. Normally I go for all black and white styles, so this is a little out of my comfort zone, but I love the cut and the tie-dye-ish pattern. And I really loved the price tag!

Originally $290, the Last Call price was $101. Thanks to all of the fab sales I got this for 50% off, or $50.50, and after the additional 10% discount I paid $45.45… a whopping 84% discount!

I highly recommend heading to your local Last Call store. With all of these discounts, the prices just can’t be beat!

Disclosure: I was provided with a $100 Last Call by Neiman Marcus gift card, however all opinions expressed above are my own.

Fitbit Issues Voluntary Recall of Fitbit Force

fitbit force

Just a heads up that according to TechCrunch, Fitbit has just issued a voluntary recall of the newly-launched Fitbit Force. (Check out my Fitbit Force review.)

While I love my Fitbit Force and continue to wear it pretty much non-stop, it has been shown to cause skin irritations in some people.

From the beginning, we’ve taken this matter very seriously. We hired independent labs and medical experts to conduct a thorough investigation, and have now learned enough to take further action. The materials used in Force are commonly found in many consumer products, and affected users are likely experiencing an allergic reaction to these materials.

While only a small percentage of Force users have reported any issue, we care about every one of our customers. We have stopped selling Force and are in the process of conducting a voluntary recall, out of an abundance of caution. We are also offering a refund directly to consumers for full retail price. We want to thank each and every member of the Fitbit community for their continued loyalty and support. We are working on our next-generation tracker and will announce news about it soon.

For additional information about this issue you can contact the Fitbit support line at: 888-656-6381, or visit

If you would like to return your Fitbit Force for a refund, click here to request a Fitbit Force Return Kit. Once Fitibit receives your Force and verifies that it is eligible for return you will be issued a refund via check within 2-6 weeks.

For the time being, the Fitbit Force has been pulled off the shelves.

According to the TechCrunch article, the CEO of Fitbit apparently issued a letter to Fitbit Force owners explaining their options and the cause of the issue. I guess he didn’t send it to all Force users because I didn’t receive it.
